Made of oak this small set of waterfall book shelves will flat pack on the removal of the two long brass locking bolts. The bolts run from the top shelf down through the supports brackets to screw into brass nut plates set into the bottom shelf. When set up the brackets of the top shelf have cut outs to hide the bolt heads. To fold the shelves the top brackets are swung on their hinges against the back board; with the bolts removed, the top shelf will then lift up on its hinges to also fold against the back board. The same process will fold the bottom shelf so that the whole is reduced to a height of just less than 3 inches. The bolts slide into holes cut into the bottom back board during travel. The design is clever and not one that we have seen before. Although intended originally to sit on a piece of furniture there is evidence of it having one had mirror plates for hanging. The antique period is mid 19th Century. |
