This set of oak campaign shelves work to the same simple design as the other set. That is to say, the boards are held in place by brass standards that screw into each other to hold the whole in place. However, they stand out for their length which has 3 rows of standards, as opposed to the normal 2, to support it. The oak timber is also uncommon; we know from maker’s catalogues that such sets in the normal size were offered in mahogany, teak, oak and walnut but the second 2 timbers are not often seen. The quality of this set of shelves is a little better than those of the late 19th Century, the moulded edge to the shelves and the cresting rail are more considered. They would have been made to accompany a fairly wide piece of campaign furniture which may have been a chest. Mid 19th Century.
