The exact use of this leather hide case is unknown although the two broad arrow stamps indicate that it had a military purpose. The case is lined in suede with no indication of it ever having had dividers which suggests that it was made to take a single item, possibly an instrument. The case can be secured by padlocks through the two twist rings so the contents would have been of some value. It is well made and sturdy with a strong, double thickness fishtail handle. Mid to late 19th Century.
